Steampunk Robot

Robot concept sketch. I didn't get a chance to finish it at the Steampunk drawing group meeting so I worked on it at home. Pens, Copic Markers and a bit of Photoshop.

I went to a cool drawing group this weekend where the theme of the day was "Steampunk". If you're not familiar with the genre it incorporates sci-fi, fantasy and elements from the Victorian Era and the Industrial Revolution. Here's a link that's more in depth: I ended up drawing a scientist/adventurer, a kind of Steampunk version of Tony Stark from Iron Man. Done with pens and Photoshop.

Continuing on with the Godzilla monster theme...this time it's his winged buddy Rodan.  Fairly quick sketch done with a ball point, a brush pen and Photoshop.

Where The Wild Things Are

I've always wanted to try and draw characters from one of my favorite illustrated books, "Where The Wild Things Are". Done in ball point and brush pen.

Mecha Godzilla!

My take on another Godzilla foe, Mecha Godzilla. I didn't want to make him look like the 70's movie monster but a more modernized version. Now that I think of it, he kinda reminds me of the Green Ranger's Dragonzord from Power Rangers. Hmmm....

Jessica Rabbit

A classmate from quite a few years ago asked me if I was able to draw Jessica Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Well, about 15 years later I finally did it. Here you go, whatever-your-name-was from my first class at the Academy! And yes, I did purposely use the Angelina Jolie pose from the Oscars.  Done in Adobe Illustrator.

Edward Scissorhands

My version of Edward Scissorhands. I've always liked the unique look of the Tim Burton movies and Edward was visually one of my favorites.
Done with a brush, ball point pen, a little bit of Photoshop.

Monster concepts

Some time early last year I sent in a few sketches for a company that needed a "hungry monster" mascot. They wanted something simple and cartoony to display around the office. I sent these in, gave them a link to my work and told them I can sketch a few more if they'd like. Never did get a response. A year later I'm guessing I didn't get the job hahaha!

Lunatic Fringe B&W artwork

The original B&W drawings I did for the 3/07/12 comic of The Lunatic Fringe. I hand draw it, scan it and add color and backgrounds in Photoshop. A little bit of my process doing the web comic!

Spider Man characters

My take on some on Spider Man characters, as well as Spidey, I did a few weeks back. Just started sketching and before I knew it I had a bunch of 'em done.

Professor X

Quick color sketch of Professor X from the X-Men using his mental powers. Or does he have a headache because his head's do shiny?

Continuing in the Godzilla-themed monster drawings, here's Mothra. I wanted to make the wings very bright and attractive to contrast the grayish, kinda muted body color.

Star Wars sketches

I'll admit I'm a big Star Wars nerd. I don't dress up in costumes or anything like that but I've always enjoyed the movies. Star Wars was the first movie I remember seeing as a kid and it got imprinted on to my brain like a baby animal imprints itself to its mother when born. Ok, I'm being goofy. Here's a few sketches I did for fun.

My writing partner and "Lunatic Fringe" collaborator Kevin Cunningham had an idea to use Godzilla's nemesis/ally Mothra for a previous web comic. Unfortunately the idea was scrapped but he gave me an idea. Why not draw those classic monster just for fun? So I'm starting off with Godzilla himself! I'll try to post a new sketch for each monster for the next few weeks as well as other stuff!
