Wow! I finally put something up after 3 months! But in my defense, I've been very busy doing other art projects that, unfortunately, I can't post on my blog. But when the projects are done I'll finally have permission to post what I've been working on. Anyways, a quick sketch of Spider Man just because I finally saw the new reboot version on DVD. All done in Photoshop.

Bad Ass Jedi Leia II

A few people liked my first Jedi Leia so I decided to make another one. If they ever reboot Star Wars, give the girl a lightsaber and let her slice up the bad guys. Done with Photoshop.

Kitchen Environment concept

This is concept art for the inside of the tree house on my previous post. Did a quick sketch, got it approved, cleaned it up and ended up coloring it in Photoshop in the style preferred.

Treehouse Concept Art

I did these tree house concepts about a month ago for an ongoing project. Simple B&W sketches done in Photoshop. Someone else did the final color versions for two of them and they look great! But I can't post them since the project is still being developed.

Ogre concept

Concept art for an ogre. Not really for a project but more for practice. Photoshop again.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Got a brand new pen tablet and it works like a dream. Trying out new techniques with it. Digital painting of Jean Grey/Phoenix of the X-Men. Done in Photoshop.

Hammer Time

Another character concept. This guy is a knight who uses a giant hammer to fight. Or to do squats. Done in Photoshop.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Undead Rogue

If you played World of Warcraft you're probably familiar with this character class. Man, that game was an addictive time sink. But I have to admit, it was damn fun while it lasted. Sketch done in Photoshop.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Y'know Superman isn't really my favorite superhero. To me he's waaaay overpowered and doesn't seem challenged very much. But I do love his simple, iconic costume. And I have fond childhood memories of the 1978 movie and the John Williams theme. And that's good enough for me to like him. Painted in Photoshop.

Purple Worm

Did some concept character work while it was slow at work. Started sketching and before I knew it, I had this guy on my screen. Done in Photoshop.

A Discovery

This is some promotional art I did for a project I'm currently working on. I can't say too much about it other than I'm involved with it on a conceptual level. Once the project's done I might be able to show more pieces. Done entirely in Photoshop.

Dark Knight

Did a quick digital painting to warm up while I had extra time at my internship. Practice, practice, practice. Done in Photoshop.

Quentin Tarantino

Trying out more techniques in digital painting. I found a photo of movie director Quentin Tarantino for reference and painted it for practice. I'm years removed from any type of traditional painting so, technique-wise, I just did what I used to do with oil paints and acrylics. Gotta keep at it so I can get better. Done in Photoshop.

Colossus from the X-Men

Trying some new digital painting techniques I've learned the past few weeks. I need to get out of that comfort zone of pen and inks to evolve and get better. Still have a lot to learn and this is just the first step. Hopefully it doesn't look too bad! Done entirely in Photoshop.

More character concepts

These are some preliminary character concepts for a project I've been working on when I have the free time. My goal was to make every character look unique and display some personality. I've noticed some artists draw every character with the same male or female face except for different clothing or hairstyles. I'm guilty of doing that more often than I like and I'm trying my best to change that. Done with pens and Photoshop.

Samurai Jack vs Gogo

Samurai Jack was a request and when given a request I usually comply (well, if I have the time these days). I decided to go a step further and have him fight Gogo Yubari from "Kill Bill". A little bit of a deviation from my style but you have to be flexible to be a working artist. Created with pens and Photoshop as usual.

Neo and Kermit vs Aliens

Another drawing I posted on Facebook a while back. Decided to touched it up a little and put it on here. One of my goofiest pieces but I love it. This would make an awesome movie crossover if anyone would be willing to try it. Done with pens and Photoshop.

I'll get back to doing more original art again soon. Just been so freakin' busy lately that time has become an adversary. Curse you, time!! I never seem to have enough of you!

Character concept art

I'm currently working on some character concepts for an upcoming project. Can't reveal too much but these are two characters I came up with based on brief descriptions. When the project starts rolling, I'll post more info. Done with the usual pens and Photoshop.

Vicki the Robot

A piece I did a few months ago and posted on Facebook. It's based on the character from the TV show "Small Wonder". A former classmate of mine, Wahab Algarmi, used the character in his comic book " The Society of Unordinary Ladies." It's about female characters from 80's and 90's sitcoms joining together to form a super group. Great stuff, check it out here. Done with pens and Photoshop.

Space Henchmen

Some henchmen I drew up. I suppose they can be cannon fodder-like stormtroopers for the Space Frog character I did a few posts ago. Pens and Photoshop.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

I didn't plan on making a Bigfoot-type creature while sketching, I just did what my mind and pencils randomly told me. I ended up with this after a few minutes of drawing then threw some color on it. Pens and Photoshop.

Aqua Monster

Another random creature I made up while sketching. Maybe he's an adversary for the Space Frog from the previous post. Hmm...sure, why not? Done with pens and Photoshop.

Space Frog!

I started sketching random stuff and came up with some kind of Space Frog. I'm thinking he's some sort of intergalactic hero who doesn't play by the rules or an incompetent yet lucky do-gooder. I don't know...I just made him up and a story will follow. Done with pens and Photoshop.

Bad Ass Jedi Leia

I know it didn't happen in the movies but it would've been fun seeing Leia lightsaber-ing some Stormtroopers in half. Done with pens, colored in Photoshop.

Samus from Metroid

Quick drawing of Samus from the "Metroid" video game series. I'm once again trying to vary my line weights and use simple color blocking. But sometimes I have the tendency to detail things more than I should. Done with a brush pen and Photoshop.

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Hulk Smash!!!

Another character from the new "Avengers" movie and comics in general. Trying some new things with line weights and simplistic color blocking. Always gotta try new styles to evolve as an artist. Brush pens and Photoshop.

Monday, April 16, 2012

Black Widow

The Scarlett Johansson version of the Black Widow from the new "Avengers" movie. Different B&W and color versions. Trying some new stuff with these drawings. Done with pens, markers and Photoshop.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Creature from the Black Lagoon

I'll admit I never did see the entire "Creature from the Black Lagoon" movie, just bits and pieces of it. But I do like the way the creature looks so here's my take on it. Done with pens, Copic Markers and colored in Photoshop.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Release the Kraken!

My version of the Kraken from 80's version of "Clash of the Titans". I've been in a classic monster mood lately. Maybe 'cause there really isn't any cool modern monster I can think of to draw. Done with pens, copic markers, Photoshop.

Robble, Robble!

Ah....the Hamburglar. A friend of mine mentioned he wanted a drawing of the scourge of McDonald's burgers and I happily obliged. I love to draw anything I haven't drawn before. If anyone has a request, lay it on me, man! Done with pens, colored in Photoshop.

The Cyclops

The Cyclops from the film "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad". One of my favorite movie to watch when I was a kid. The special effects look dated now since the advent of CGI but I don't care. The stop motion animation still looks incredible to me. Done in pens and Photoshop.

Willie Wonka

I'll admit, the 1970's Willie Wonka movie scared the crap out of me when I was a child. Especially the Oompa Loompas. It was strange and bizarre and my young mind just couldn't process what was going on. Especially the tunnel scene where things got very psychedelic and insane. So I thought it would be interesting to draw the slightly unhinged  Gene Wilder Willie Wonka as opposed to the child-like Johnny Depp version. Done in ball point and brush pens.

Steampunk Robot

Robot concept sketch. I didn't get a chance to finish it at the Steampunk drawing group meeting so I worked on it at home. Pens, Copic Markers and a bit of Photoshop.

Monday, March 26, 2012

I went to a cool drawing group this weekend where the theme of the day was "Steampunk". If you're not familiar with the genre it incorporates sci-fi, fantasy and elements from the Victorian Era and the Industrial Revolution. Here's a link that's more in depth: I ended up drawing a scientist/adventurer, a kind of Steampunk version of Tony Stark from Iron Man. Done with pens and Photoshop.

Friday, March 23, 2012

Continuing on with the Godzilla monster theme...this time it's his winged buddy Rodan.  Fairly quick sketch done with a ball point, a brush pen and Photoshop.

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Wednesday Addams

Wednesday Addams from the "Addams Family".
Ink and brush pens, little bit of Photoshop for shadows

Where The Wild Things Are

I've always wanted to try and draw characters from one of my favorite illustrated books, "Where The Wild Things Are". Done in ball point and brush pen.

Mecha Godzilla!

My take on another Godzilla foe, Mecha Godzilla. I didn't want to make him look like the 70's movie monster but a more modernized version. Now that I think of it, he kinda reminds me of the Green Ranger's Dragonzord from Power Rangers. Hmmm....

Jessica Rabbit

A classmate from quite a few years ago asked me if I was able to draw Jessica Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Well, about 15 years later I finally did it. Here you go, whatever-your-name-was from my first class at the Academy! And yes, I did purposely use the Angelina Jolie pose from the Oscars.  Done in Adobe Illustrator.

Edward Scissorhands

My version of Edward Scissorhands. I've always liked the unique look of the Tim Burton movies and Edward was visually one of my favorites.
Done with a brush, ball point pen, a little bit of Photoshop.

Monster concepts

Some time early last year I sent in a few sketches for a company that needed a "hungry monster" mascot. They wanted something simple and cartoony to display around the office. I sent these in, gave them a link to my work and told them I can sketch a few more if they'd like. Never did get a response. A year later I'm guessing I didn't get the job hahaha!

Lunatic Fringe B&W artwork

The original B&W drawings I did for the 3/07/12 comic of The Lunatic Fringe. I hand draw it, scan it and add color and backgrounds in Photoshop. A little bit of my process doing the web comic!

Spider Man characters

My take on some on Spider Man characters, as well as Spidey, I did a few weeks back. Just started sketching and before I knew it I had a bunch of 'em done.

Professor X

Quick color sketch of Professor X from the X-Men using his mental powers. Or does he have a headache because his head's do shiny?

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Continuing in the Godzilla-themed monster drawings, here's Mothra. I wanted to make the wings very bright and attractive to contrast the grayish, kinda muted body color.

Star Wars sketches

I'll admit I'm a big Star Wars nerd. I don't dress up in costumes or anything like that but I've always enjoyed the movies. Star Wars was the first movie I remember seeing as a kid and it got imprinted on to my brain like a baby animal imprints itself to its mother when born. Ok, I'm being goofy. Here's a few sketches I did for fun.

My writing partner and "Lunatic Fringe" collaborator Kevin Cunningham had an idea to use Godzilla's nemesis/ally Mothra for a previous web comic. Unfortunately the idea was scrapped but he gave me an idea. Why not draw those classic monster just for fun? So I'm starting off with Godzilla himself! I'll try to post a new sketch for each monster for the next few weeks as well as other stuff!
